Veneers in Menai

man in dental chairDo you avoid smiling for photos or in social settings because you are embarrassed by the appearance of your teeth? Perhaps you have teeth that are gapped, stained or uneven. With veneers, you can achieve a stunningly beautiful and confident smile!

What Are They?

A veneer is a tooth-coloured shell or thin layer of porcelain or composite that’s placed over the front of the tooth. Some patients may only require six of these custom fittings, while another person with a broader smile could need 10.

Concerns They Address

Veneers can effectively improve the appearance of teeth with

  • Minor gaps
  • Crowding or overlapping
  • Discolouration or stains
  • Sizing issues

Each layer is painstakingly crafted to fit alongside its neighbouring teeth to achieve a straight, balanced and white smile.

At Vision Dental, we offer patients two types of these custom fittings:

E-Max Porcelain

We prefer to use E-Max cast porcelain veneers because they provide ideal strength and aesthetics. We can do custom shading of the E-Max shells so they blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

At your first appointment, we’ll polish the tooth to ensure a proper fit, then take a scan or mould to craft the permanent restorations. In the interim, we’ll provide you with a set of temporary veneers to wear while the permanent ones are being created. After a short period, you’ll come back to the office to have the porcelain fronts bonded in place for a beautiful smile.

Resin Composite

We can place composite veneers as a more affordable alternative to E-Max porcelain veneers. They look great when they’re done but are not as strong and colour-stable as E-Max and so will need to be replaced, usually after 5-8 years. It’s also important to note that resin composite veneers can chip more easily.

Getting resin composite ones takes just one appointment.

At our dental office, we use the golden proportion formula so that each veneered tooth has the ideal width to height ratio to achieve the perfect smile. We also establish ideal gum contours (gingival zeniths) using our diode laser to improve the aesthetics and balance between the teeth and gums.

It’s crucial to maintain healthy teeth and gums by brushing twice daily and flossing around your veneers every day. You may wonder if flossing will take off the veneer. Rest assured that it won’t pull off a bonded veneer.

If you don’t clean around your veneer your gums can become inflamed. That inflammation can lead to more bacteria that can compromise the bonding agent between your veneer and tooth.

Schedule regular checkups to have your teeth cleaned and assessed for any issues.

We advise all of our cosmetic dentistry patients to invest in a protective night guard to prevent any chipping of their veneers. If you grind or clench your teeth at night, doing so can damage your veneers and other dental work.

We highly recommend dental veneers to patients looking to improve the appearance of their smile with minimal discomfort. There are, however, other alternatives to these custom-crafted shells that we offer to address simple cosmetic dental issues.

Teeth whitening: If your teeth are stained or discoloured, our in-office teeth whitening may be a good alternative to veneers.

Dental crowns: Dental crowns can be used to conceal misshapen or damaged teeth.

Clear aligners: Crooked or crowded teeth can be straightened, sometimes within a few months, with clear aligners.
