Dental laser
The use of lasers in dentistry opens the doors for dentists to perform a wide variety of procedures.
Our laser allows us to perform these procedures more quickly, effectively and comfortably.
The laser is especially useful in such treatment as:
- Biopsies
- Fraenectomy – the removal of the small fold of tissue attaching the tongue to the floor of the mouth (lingual fraenectomy) or the lip to gums in the upper jaw (labial fraenectomy)– LINK to children’s dentistry
- Recovering implants
- Exposure of unerupted teeth
- Soft tissue crown lengthening – dental lasers can reshape gum tissue to improve the appearance of a gummy smile
- To stop gums bleeding during dental procedures
- Contouring gum margins during crown preparations
- Operculectomy – removing excess gum around wisdom teeth.
These are simple treatments performed here in our surgery. In the past, these types of procedures have been done surgically, often requiring sutures (stitches).
With dental lasers, the high beam light sterilises the area being worked on and aids in the clotting of the blood vessels. This means in many cases sutures are not required therefore healing is faster and less painful.
