Preventative dental hygiene
At Vision Dental we place great emphasis on our diagnostic and preventive treatments. Clean and healthy teeth and gums are an integral aspect of overall well-being. We encourage you and your family to attend for maintenance appointments with our qualified dental hygiene team along with preventive dentistry advice which vary from 3 – 6 months depending on the individual needs so that we can ensure you maintain a fresh and healthy smile at all times. It is never too late or too early in life to begin good dental hygiene.

Dental Hygienists are specially trained and qualified professionals who work with the dentist to perform preventive treatment and maintenance of the mouth, teeth and gums.
Studies confirm that there is a strong link between oral health and general health such as diabetes, heart disease, pregnancy and respiratory disease.
Gum disease – Clinically referred to as gingivitis. This affects most people at sometime during their life where gums appear red, swollen and bleed easily which is caused by plaque, a soft sticky colourless layer of bacteria that forms on teeth everyday.
Periodontitis – is a long standing infection which slowly destroys gum and supporting bone. This gradually leads to pockets breeding bacteria between gum and teeth and if left untreated can result in tooth loss. However, through the application of a good oral hygiene routine & regular check ups with our qualified dental hygiene team this should no longer be a problem.
Both these forms of disease can progress painlessly producing few obvious signs even in the late stages of the disease. On one day a visit to your dentist might get told that you have chronic gum disease and that you may be at an increased risk of losing teeth .this is one reason why regular dental hygiene visits and a periodontal examination are important and diagnosis of these conditions can be made through an oral examination with us .In this consultation we take radiographs and check the health of the periodontal tissues with a graduated periodontal probe .
Our Active maintenance programme is designed for the young and the old to focus on their individual concerns and needs such as:
Diet – to minimise intake of sugary or acidic foods and beverages or to consume it during meal times rather than snacking through the day to reduce the contact of teeth to these harmful bacteria
Oral hygiene measures – in addition to the traditional cleaning, the hygiene appointment has an educational factor adjusting daily habits and specific techniques to achieve optimal oral health
- Application of fluoride and desensitizing agents
- Take radiographs for Diagnostic and to indicate any treatment required
- Provide Dental health education
