If you feel tired & find it hard to concentrate
….. we can probably help
The word “apnoea” means stopping breath. It occurs when the walls of the throat close together and block your airway repeatedly while you are sleeping. This causes your oxygen levels to fall to the point where your brain wakes you up momentarily.
This can happen hundreds of times during a night. And, you are not even aware of it. So you end up with less sleep. Worst of all you get tired during the day and find it difficult to concentrate.
Sleep apnoea is common in children and adults. In fact, it is estimated that about 5% of Australians suffer from sleep apnoea. About one in four men over the age of 30 years are affected.
Management and treatment
Early diagnosis and treatment is the best option.
Once we have diagnosed sleep apnoea, we refer you to an ear/nose/throat specialist for detailed tests and an examination.
The specialist will then do a sleep study and take special radiographs and scans.
Removing your adenoids and tonsils is considered the first line of treatment. After surgery we work with you to keep your airways open.
